ARTROCKER REVIEW

THE LONDON DIRTHOLE COMPANY – MODERN IST EP

4 STARS (out of 5)

The London Dirthole Company’s latest offering the ‘Modern Ist EP’ is as raucous and punk as anything that they have done previously. Opening track ‘Professor The Confessor’ could be a White Stripes song, and powered by a pounding drumbeat and a fuzzy bass line the track has an immediate appeal. Next up is ‘Crying Onions’, a fast paced affair with it’s spiky guitar parts and female led vocals taking centre stage.

Both these tracks are almost over before they have begun as neither clocks in at more than a minute and a half, yet it is this immediacy that makes them so appealing. There’s not time for any nonsense with The London Dirthole Company and the band sound fantastic for it.

Closing track ‘Tomorrow, Today’ sounds like ‘Strange House’ era Horrors with it’s driving bass line and howling vocals giving the song a huge amount of power. There is something slightly sinister about this track and the band appears to revel in it. The gear is turned up loud and the parts played at break neck speed. If you get the chance to catch these lot live don’t miss it.

THE LONDON DIRTHOLE COMPANY
Around 5 drummers, 5 guitarist/bass/etc players. With all kinds of special guests.
Whatever they think they’re doing at the time. I can’t keep up, frankly.
They’ve been compared to The Fall & The Velvet Underground, perhaps because they were mavericks, as well. But this lot are a different kettle of fish entirely.
Marvellously controlled, dynamic chaos. If you like things, you’d like this.
” Euphoric, gleeful sonic violence. Go there.” -

BONE (D-66)
A moronic inferno. The new stuff, after half a bottle of whiskey, sounds like you’ve been touched by the hand of God. Sounds damn fine when sober, to boot. He went to live in Morocco, and something must have happened out there. Something savage and deranged. Now he sounds like Reverend Beat Man having a particularly psychotic episode.
If you like that sort of thing.

DDR MAN (SEXTON MING)
By night, Sexton Ming becomes DDR Man. He sings you songs, garbed solely in a thong & a WW1 German gas mask. DDR Man lives in the murky netherzone between comedy and terror. In a crazed, post-apocalyptic future, he could be your dad. Or something even worse. Think about that.Go on.
Here he is coming to grips with Love Is The Drug by Roxy Music:

CHILDREN OF THE DAMNED
…Are literally children. 5-10 years of age. They first congealed in 2009 to play a filthy, deranged version of We’re All Going To Hell by The Bastard Fairies, and promptly went away somewhere. Now they’ve reformed. Only not in that way. And they are legion. They’ll be backed by very special guests; saying what they’re going
to do would spoil the surprise. Think Kinder Neubabuten proto-punk on PCP, with children, and you’d be halfway there.

FRAGMENTS OF FILTH
Mindboggling, psychotronic morsels from cinema’s back passage.
